Summary: Yellow dock is an ancient medicinal herb primarily used for its toning and cleansing qualities. It is thought to improve the flow of bile through the liver and gallbladder which, in healthy individuals, helps break down fats in the small intestine and carries away waste products generated by the liver. Some herbalists recommend this herb for treating mild constipation and sluggish digestion. Yellow dock is also said to benefit eruptive skin conditions including acne, boils, eczema, and psoriasis. Externally, a decoction of the roots can be applied to minor cuts, burns, and abrasions to hasten healing. An ointment of this herb may be beneficial for itchy rashes and sores. Avoid preparations containing yellow dock if pregnant or breast-feeding. Do not use this herb internally if suffering from kidney stones.
