Arnica
AKA: Common arnica, Leopard’s bane, Mountain arnica, Mountain tobacco, Wolfsbane
Portrait: Perennial. Native to mountainous woods and pastures in Canada, the northwestern US, central Europe, and Siberia. Bright yellow daisy-like flowers are harvested when in full bloom from June to August.

Herbal Properties: Diaphoretic, diuretic, emollient, expectorant, stimulant, vulnerary
Summary: Arnica promotes the healing of bruises, deep-tissue injuries and diseases (sprains, strains, arthritis), and minor skin irritations. A potent anti-inflammatory, this herb improves local blood supply and increases the rate of reabsorption in cases of internal bleeding. Do not use arnica on open sores, wounds, or any area where broken skin is suspected. Taken internally arnica can cause death – it is very strong medicine and should only be used under the supervision of an astute and knowledgeable herbalist or homeopathic physician. Use this herb externally only.
